Macclesfield Town F.C.

Josh Clegg: FAQ

FOR A LITTLE BACKGROUND: HOW OLD ARE YOU AND WHAT POSITION DO YOU PLAY?

“17 years old and centre midfield.”

WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG, DID YOU EVER BELIEVE YOU COULD MAKE IT PROFESSIONAL? OR WAS THAT A GOAL YOU WORKED TOWARDS?

“When I was young I knew I had good ability, and I never doubted myself that I could make it and I’ve always worked hard.”

WHO WAS YOUR IDOL GROWING UP? WHAT CLUB DID YOU SUPPORT AS A KID?

“Growing up my idol was Messi, I used to love watching Barcelona and Messi as a kid; for me, he is the best in the world. I support Man United, the first game I went to was United vs Arsenal, when United won 8-2 at Old Trafford.”

HOW DO YOU KEEP FIT IN A ROUTINE WHILE NOT GOING TO TRAINING?

“I have weights at home so I do weight training daily. I go on runs every two days to keep myself fit, it’s important that I do this so I come back stronger and fitter.”

WHAT DO YOU MISS MOST ABOUT NOT BEING ABLE TO PLAY FOOTBALL IN THE PAST FEW WEEKS?

“I just miss kicking a ball and playing, just playing football in general.”

DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE YOU COULD GIVE TO YOUNG MIDFIELDERS?

“Midfield is probably the hardest position on the pitch, so in my opinion, I would just say keep it simple when you can, move the ball quickly, and get yourself around the pitch to help the attacks and defending.”

WHAT’S YOUR MAIN GOAL TO ACHIEVE IN YOUR CAREER? TO WIN A SPECIFIC TROPHY?

“My main goal in football is to play in the Premier League, and hopefully one day I can do that.”
